Pacific Rim Cockpit is Real?!

Director Guillermo Del Toro tried to use as many practical effects as possible while shooting the mega bot movie Pacific Rim, including building a full sized cockpit...

When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace. But as you sit down with your bag of popcorn and buckle up for the ultimate movie going experience, the actors behind the movie actually had to strap themselves in.

The cockpit helmet for the legendary robots in Pacific Rim is a fully built set that stands nearly four stories in height. With each take actors are thrown, pushed, dropped, and soaked to the bone. They are also locked into the armor with their movements limited to what the set builders allow them. The whole set is placed on pistons to make it move, making the cockpit sort of like a ride at Universal Studios.

One thing's for sure, I can't wait to see this mega robot movie.
