World's First 3D Printed Car...debunked.
History was made recently, with this, the world's first 3D printed car...or at least, that's what they claim.
Local Motors says that it has successfully designed and printed the world's first 3D printed car, Strati. But of course, I'm not here to congratulate them. Instead I'm here to debunk this false claim. For starters, this isn't the first 3D printed car. Urbee, pictured below, was made well before Strati. And it had it's entire exterior and interior 3D printed.
Which brings me to my second problem with Strati. It's not completely 3D printed. The battery, motor, wiring, and suspension come from a variety of sources. Only the chassis and body of the car are printed from a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic compound in a giant printer.
So no, it's not the world's first 3D printed car. But that doesn't make it any less cool to see 3D printing being used in this way. And hopefully we will start to see more creations of this sort coming our way in future years.
Real quick before I close, I would like to thank you, the reader, because this is why you choose Lazy Boy Tech. We do our research, bring you the hard facts, and keep you up to date about the coolest of technologies. It's ridiculous to see how many other websites are so unknowledgeable about the technologies they are reporting on. And how pretty much every single one of them will be writing their articles about this creation with the same false pretense. Be sure to tell everyone you know, about how much you just love LazyBoyTech.com
