Google Glass on eBay, but you can't afford it.

Google Glass brief appearance on eBay...

Google Glass had a brief appearance on eBay with bids clocking in at over $90,000...only to be later removed. We imagine the seller was contacted by Google, and a note on the now defunct listing shows they weren't happy with the amount of attention the listing received, nor with those "who have driven up the price for their own amusement."

My question: "Is Google Glass really the future"?
Obviously people are interested in it, and willing to pay through the teeth for it. So why aren't we hearing of any competition in the area of head mounted optical computers?

Google's promise of finally releasing Google Glass to the public is becoming more of a broken record more than anything else. Around August 2011, a Glass prototype weighed 8 pounds; the device is now lighter than the average pair of sunglasses....so there has been some progress.

But still, are the uses of Google Glass really that great?
I had always been hoping Google would mix in augmented reality with the glasses immersing the user into the world around him through the glasses...but so far all that the glasses really do is simple smart phone functionality like showing the time, taking pictures, and using Google maps.

I'm not impressed, and I definitely wouldn't pay $90,000 for a pair. Besides the final release of the Google Glass is still just myth and far away in the future. It will be a long time before our dreams of becoming Ironman become a reality...
