Israel has a sophisticated warning system in place with its Iron Dome anti-missile defense system and air raid sirens, but still missiles get through and reign devastating blows on cities in Southern Israel. 


The Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system. The Jerusalem Post reports that the system shot down 90% of rockets launched from Gaza. But still the 10% that gets through land in densely populated areas in southern Israel causing widespread damage.

Loud air raid sirens sound warnings for incoming missiles, but citizens working indoors don't always hear the warnings, according to CNN's Fred Pleitgen.

The unofficial warning system application named "Color Red" was thought up by 13-year-old Liron Bar of Beersheba, The Times of Israel reports.


The app sends notifications in Hebrew to iPhone users every time an air raid warning goes out across the government's public safety network. The app can also tell users where the nearest shelter is, according to RT.com.
