Glow in the dark kitten
Japanese Scientists have developed glow in the dark cats!
The original idea the scientists had in mind was just to test and see if they could insert novel genes into cats. Most efforts at injecting DNA into fertilized cat embryos had failed. But the doctors at the Mayo Clinic and Yamaguchi University in Japan succeeded by injecting a Lentivirus bearing the novel genetics directly into unfertilized cat eggs. The result of their endeavors was a glow in the dark kitten visible to the human eye under blue light.
The success of this project opens up all sorts of new applications. Dr. Eric Poeschla plans to use this to develop a cure for AIDS, "We want to see if we can protect the domestic cat against its AIDS virus, if we can protect any species, eventually including ours, against its own AIDS virus."
But I personally think that a more practical and useful application is the cure for late night cat related accidents while en route to the bathroom.
And while we're on the late night bathroom topic, how about glow-in-the-dark toilet paper? Hey, they already have it! Don't believe me? Check it out!
